Pep Guardiola outlines key difference between Man City and Liverpool in title race
City finished 18 points behind Liverpool this season after pipping them to the trophy last year.
Over the course of the season, City lost nine games, while Liverpool was defeated on just three occasions – two of which were after they were confirmed as champions.
And Guardiola feels it was The Reds’ relentless commitment to avoiding further losses which helped them reign supreme.
“I think Liverpool was exceptional this season and I want to congratulate them,” Guardiola said to beIN Sports. “We were not consistent like previous seasons when we were like machines every single day.
“But we lost a lot of games this season, and when you lose a lot of games with this opponent, it’s not impossible, but the way we played was good, I don’t have many regrets in the way we played.
“Liverpool played every single game like it was their last game, but we did not play the games as if we do not win, we are going to lose the Premier League.
“They played every single game like they could not lose one game, and we did not.”
Liverpool were pretty much out of sight by January as they racked up a 27-game unbeaten run to put them in a commanding position, while City’s defensive problems caused havoc for Guardiola.
