Transfers likely an issue for Tottenham & Antonio Conte

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer believes disagreements over player recruitment caused Tottenham’s talks with Antonio Conte to collapse.

The ex-Inter Milan and Chelsea boss looked set to become Tottenham’s new manager. However, per The Telegraph, the north London club decided he was not their man in the end, with both parties having concerns.

During his time at Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea, Conte was often dissatisfied with the club’s transfer activity and was not afraid to air that in public, and Palmer thinks recruitment was once again a problem for the Italian when he spoke to Daniel Levy.

Would you take Rudiger at Tottenham?

Yes, he’s been class!

Yes, he's been class!

No thank you

“That was their prime target, Conte, and it looked for everything in the world that that deal was done,” the ex-Leeds United star said. “For some reason, it’s broken down.

“Me personally, I think that is to do with recruitment of players and being able to bring in the players that he wants to bring because that’s the reason why he’s left Inter. I think he was under the restraints in terms of the players that he could bring in.”

Whatever the reason, missing out on Conte can only be described as a huge blow. The 51-year-old is a world-class manager who wins everywhere he goes.

He has already proven himself in England, winning both the Premier League and FA Cup, so he would have undoubtedly been an incredible appointment.
