Zuckerberg Believes VR Will Disrupt Social and Fitness Industry
According to CNBC News, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg recently discussed future development of VR/AR industry at the French Tech Conference VivaTech with Publicis Group Chairman Maurice Levy.
Zuckerberg said that VR gaming is still the main focus of the virtual reality industry. However, development in the areas of social VR and VR fitness will be tremendous down the road.
Zuckerberg believes that being immersed with VR headset in the virtual world through VR fitness apps like Peloton, and experience dance or fitness lessons guided by coach will be huge in the future. Zuckerberg believes that VR will be the next future computing platform after mobile phones and CPUs.
Zuckerberg also said that computers and mobile phones will not disappear from the market, but the importance of VR will one day surpass the current computing devices.
Zuckerberg pointed out that virtual meeting will also be prominent, as people will eventually gather in virtual offices to attend meetings. We are already seeing that right now with companies with employees working from home due to the pandemic. He believe VR meeting will give participants a deeper level of immersion as opposed to traditional 2D meetings via virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom.
It is also noteworthy to mention that Facebook has launched it’s advertising mechanism in the Oculus headset, which provides a brand new avenue for creators to monetize their content. Recent sales data shows Oculus Quest has been very popular during the epidemic, so the built-in ad is a good time to be introduced to the market.
